Signiert. Bräunung von altem Firnis, angeschmutzt. Stellenweise kleine Farbverluste an den Rändern des Malträgers (von früherer Rahmung). Gerahmt. – Knab war Schüler bei Carl Heideloffs in Nürnberg. Ab 1859 in München, um sich der Architekturmalerei zu widmen. Er studierte Malerei bei Arthur von Ramberg und Carl Piloty. Studienaufenthalte in Italien. In seinen Bildthemen spiegelte sich die Sehnsucht nach Arkadien sowie romantischen Motiven und Stimmungen wieder.
Oil on wooden plate. Signed. Browning from old varnish, soiled. Small paint losses in places at the edges of the painting support (from previous framing). Framed. – Knab was a student of Carl Heideloffs in Nuremberg. From 1859 in Munich to devote himself to architectural painting. He studied painting with Arthur von Ramberg and Carl Piloty. Study visits to Italy. His pictorial themes reflected a longing for Arcadia as well as Romantic motifs and moods.
